Why We Pray
Prayer is communication with God, our Heavenly Father. It is one of the greatest spiritual habits between God and His children. Earthly parents love to communicate with their children. Much more does our Heavenly Father love to hear His children.
God wants us to talk to Him about anything and everything. Nothing is too minute to tell God. Nothing is too big to talk to Him about. He wants to hear us in all things. He's willing and ready to hear us. Pray to your Father concerning all things. His ears are open to all you have to say. He wants and loves to hear you.
In prayer we present our needs before God and He answers us. But we not only pray because we have material needs we want God to meet. If our only reason for praying is for our material needs to be met, it means we are yet to understand the greatest essence and benefit of prayer. If we lack this understanding, we may not be able to tap into the great Spiritual benefit prayer affords.
In all the many reasons why we pray, the greatest of them is to know God, to fellowship and walk with Him and to grow in His presence. Prayer brings us into the presence of God and continually keeps us in His presence. In His presence, we have sweet fellowship with Him. We pray because we love God and so love the sweet communion we share with Him through prayer. As we continue in prayer, we see God more, we understand Him more, we know Him more, we grow in His presence and in the process we form an unbroken relationship and bond with our loving Father. This is the primary reason why we pray.
Make prayer the integral part of your life. Pray at all times and at all places. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing. Grow in the spiritual habit of prayer. Commune with God in your heart at all times. As you continue in prayer you'll grow in God's presence, you'll grow in your knowledge and love for Him, and you'll experience a beautiful work with your Heavenly Father while still on earth.
When you pray, pray in the name of Jesus and receive the answers you seek by faith in Him. He is the only Way to get to God, our Heavenly Father. There's no other way other than Him. Pray in the name of Jesus and in faith, and you will receive answers from God according to His will. Here is what the Scriptures say about how to pray and receive from God.
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.- John 16:23
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.- John 14:13
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.- John 15:7
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.- James 1:6-8
