ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER, BENJAMIN NETANYAHU VISITS WEST AFRICA
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to depart from Israel to West Africa today. The visit is intended to strengthen Israel’s relationship with the West African countries. He will be attending the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) conference in Liberia, alongside Israel’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Hotovely.
The Prime Minister is expected to deliver a speech at the conference. His meeting with the African heads of states and leaders is aimed at building relationship between Israel and the African countries in the region.
Meanwhile, Moroccan King Mohammed VI has cancelled his participation in the conference as a result of Netanyahu’s presence. The country’s Foreign Ministry stated that the King’s participation had to be cancelled to avoid the risk of encountering Netanyahu at the event.
“We’ve decided to decrease the level of presentation at the conference due to our lack of agreement with Netanyahu’s presence,” the Ministry said in a statement. “The King hopes that his first visit to the conference will not take place in the shadow of dispute and confrontation.”
During the visit, the Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to sign a joint statement to strengthen the relations between Israel and the organization in various aspects.
“The State of Israel is returning to Africa,” Israel’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Hotovely said. “We will strengthen the economic cooperation with the member states.”
