Abiding
In John 15, the Lord emphasised how needful it is for us to abide in Him. We can only bear fruits and excel if we abide in Him and with Him. He is the vine, we are the branches. If a branch is not abiding in its vine, not only will it not bear fruits, it will dry up and die. So it is if we cease* to abide in the Lord.
John 15:4-5
"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
Abiding in the Lord means to be in a relationship with Him. It means to walk with the Lord and always dwell in His presence. It means to live in obedience to Him. A life abiding in Christ is a life surrendered to Him and to His will. Sin is not the mark of an abiding life. Where there is sin and disobedience, there can be no relationship with the Lord.
Through prayer and the Word of God, we continually walk with God and abide in Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Neglecting prayer and the study of God's Word is disconnecting from the Lord. In prayer we communicate with our Heavenly Father. Losing communication with Him affects our relationship with Him, just as a break in communication can severe our relationship with our earthly parents. If we would walk with God and abide in Him we must know Him. Through His Word, we know God, His will and His plan. His Word keeps us in the centre of His will and plan.
Daily walk with the Lord. Stay in His presence all day long, everyday. Through prayer and the Word abide in the Lord and stay committed to Him. Let no one and nothing come between you and Him. Make your relationship with the Lord your greatest priority. Abide in Him and never be found outside of Him. Without Him, you can do nothing.
