Dolly Parton Wins MovieGuide Grace Award
Dolly Parton just received MovieGuide's Grace Award for Most Inspiring Performance on TV for her role in the Netflix film Christmas on the Square. Upon winning the award, Parton commented on how grace is a big part of her life and her belief in God. According to The Christian Post, she said, "I talk a lot about faith and family because my grandpa was a preacher, my mother was very, very spiritual, so I grew up very spiritual, and I'm a spiritual person, myself. I really have a lot of faith, and I thank God every day [for] everything good that happens to me, and I pray for guidance."
At the end of her speech, Parton shared, "When I do get recognized for things like this, it just makes me think, 'Well, praise the Lord!'"
According to MovieGuide's website, Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square is a musical about a cold-hearted woman who tried to sell her homeland, that is, until she hears stories and sees sights that could potentially lead her to change her mind. The movie is a Netflix original film starring Treat Williams and Christine Baranski in addition to Dolly Parton.
According to Parton, in an interview with The Christian Post, the film has a message of restoration and forgiveness. "There's a lot to be said about forgiveness; it cleans you for other good stuff to come in. If you go around with a bunch of hate and anger and bottled-up stuff in you, you can't blossom, as a person, you're not doing yourself any favors or anyone else. It's just so much better to forgive."
Other award winners include I Still Believe, the film telling the story of Jeremy Camp's life and how, even in the bad times, there's always hope, and Safety, a movie about football player Ray-Ray McElrathbey and how he secretly raised his little brother on the school grounds of Clemson University while his home life was unsteady. Additionally, Infidel, a film starring Jim Caviezel playing the role of an American who travels to Cairo to decry the terrorism of the Islamic State, won an award.
